Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 14 Oct 2026
1. Who we are
These terms are between you and Studio 20, of 20 High Street, Ilfracombe, Devon, EX34 9DA. You can reach us at [email protected] or 01271 862019.
By creating an account, buying a membership or using the centre you agree to these terms. Nothing in them affects your legal rights as a consumer.
2. Memberships
Memberships are personal to you and cannot be transferred or shared. Your membership starts on the date of purchase (or the start date agreed with reception) and ends on the expiry date shown in your member account. Every new member is offered a free induction.
3. Prices and payment
The price you see is the total price you pay. There is no joining fee and no separate charge for the ladies-only gym. We are not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is charged. Class prices are pay-as-you-go unless your membership says otherwise.
Card payments are taken securely by Stripe. Recurring memberships renew automatically at the same price until you cancel; we will tell you in advance if the price is going to change.
4. Your right to cancel an online purchase — 14 days
If you buy a membership through this website, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. You do not need to give a reason.
- The 14 days run from the day after we confirm your membership.
- To cancel, just tell us — email [email protected], phone 01271 862019, write to us, or tell reception. You can use the form at the bottom of this page, but you do not have to.
- We will refund you within 14 days of being told, using the same payment method you used.
- You will be charged for the days you have used. When you buy, you confirm that you want your membership to start straight away rather than waiting 14 days. That means if you cancel during the cancellation period we refund what you paid minus a proportionate amount for the days your membership was live — worked out at the daily rate of the membership you bought. You are not entitled to those days free of charge.
For example: cancel a £36 monthly membership on day 14 and you would be refunded roughly £19.20, having paid about £16.80 for the 14 days you had access. Cancel a £360 annual membership on day 14 and you would be refunded roughly £346, having paid about £13.80 for those days. Cancelling and re-joining repeatedly therefore saves you nothing — you pay for every day you train either way.
This right applies to purchases made online or otherwise at a distance. It does not apply to memberships bought in person at reception, because those are not distance contracts — though we may still be able to help, so please ask.
5. Refunds after the cancellation period
Once your 14-day cancellation period has ended, memberships are non-refundable. This includes monthly, annual, six-month and weekly options. Cancelling a recurring membership stops future payments but does not refund the period you have already paid for. Please make sure you have chosen the right membership before you pay.
None of this affects your statutory rights. If we do not provide the service with reasonable care and skill, or the centre is unavailable for a prolonged period, you are entitled to a repeat performance or an appropriate price reduction under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you have a serious illness or injury, or you move away, talk to us — we will deal with you fairly.
6. Cancelling a recurring membership
You can stop a recurring membership at any time from your member account or by telling reception. Cancel before your next renewal date to avoid the next payment. We do not charge a cancellation fee.
7. Inductions, health and safe use
You are responsible for using the equipment safely and for following instructions from our staff. Please tell us about any injury, medical condition or medication that may affect your training, and see your GP first if you are unsure whether exercise is right for you. Telling us is voluntary, and anything you share is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. Stop and speak to a member of staff if you feel unwell.
8. Your account and member ID
Your member ID (for example S20-XXXXXX) identifies you at reception. Keep your password to yourself and do not let anyone else use your account or your membership.
9. Conduct
We want everyone to feel welcome. Abusive, dangerous or discriminatory behaviour, or anything that puts other members at risk, may result in your membership being ended. Where we end a membership for this reason we will not normally refund the remaining period, but we will always tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
10. Classes, timetable and opening hours
The timetable and our opening hours may change; this website always shows the current version. We may occasionally have to cancel a class or close for maintenance, holidays or events beyond our control. We will give as much notice as we can. Short, occasional changes of this kind do not entitle you to a refund, but a prolonged closure does — see section 5.
11. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We never limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. We are not responsible for personal property you bring into the centre, so please use the lockers and do not leave valuables unattended.
12. Complaints
If something is wrong, tell us — email [email protected], phone 01271 862019, or speak to anyone at reception. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and resolve them within 28 days.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms — for example if the law changes or we add new facilities. The version published on this page applies. If a change materially affects an existing membership we will tell members before it takes effect, and you may cancel if you do not accept it.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring court proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring proceedings in your own country's courts.
